Valuable Lesson: Day 4

Word Count: 24,047

Summary of Events:
Kingston managed to get the opportunity to ride Nobleford via the draw, but he rather regretted that fact because Nobleford proved difficult to gear up and also bucked Kingston off quickly. In fact, Kingston got bucked off the next four horses he rode, leaving him without a single point on the season. Because they had a bit of a long stretch between rodeos Kingston and Drew decided to stay at a campground for a few days and, while getting a few groceries, they ran into a couple of fellow rodeo competitors, although they didn't compete in the same event . . .

Excerpt of the Day:
“Well I guess we get to hang out for the week,” Kingston said.
“And that’s not the half of it either,” Forrest said. “Monty and I ran into one of the Kramer girls and your brother getting firewood. They said they were at site what again?”
“Fifty four,” Monty replied.
Kingston groaned. “You can’t be serious.”
“I doubt they’d really want to hang around with us,” Monty said. “I got the distinct impression Quinn wasn’t the happiest to see us.”
“Reminding him of all his failures you know,” Forrest said.
“Failures?” Kingston asked.
“Yeah,” Forrest replied. “He struck out last night and got a no time, and from what I heard from Troy Kramer was that he’s either gotten a no time or a broken barrier penalty every rodeo this season.”
“Oh wow,” Kingston said. “That’s not bad.”
“No, it’s terrible,” Forrest said.
Kingston glanced over at motion and saw Drew approaching him.
“Well– oh, hey guys,” Drew said, noticing Forrest and Monty.
“You’re here too?” Forrest asked.
“Of course I am, we travel together,” Drew said, indicating between himself and Kingston.
“Cool, King was just telling us you’re at site thirty seven, and we’re at site forty two, so we might have to hang out,” Forrest said.
“That sounds awesome to me,” Drew said. “But come on King, let’s go we can chat later.”
“We’ll see you later,” Forrest said.
“Yep,” Drew replied.
Kingston and Drew headed for the cashier, where they paid for their few items before heading back for the campground.
“I always like meeting people at the campground,” Drew said. “The more people you know, the bigger group you can form, the better. I mean, there are times when it’s fun to be alone, but camping is best done together.”
“Keeps it from getting too lonely or quiet,” Kingston said.
“Yeah,” Drew said. “You think there’s anyone else we know at the campground?”
“I know there is, but we’re not letting them know we’re here,” Kingston replied.
“Ah,” Drew said. “If that’s how it is then my three guesses are Quinn, Quinn, and Quinn.”
“One hundred percent score,” Kingston replied.
“But wouldn’t he have horses?” Drew asked. “I don’t think this campground allows horses.”
“I bet Dad has the horses,” Kingston replied. “In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re here with Payton’s vehicle, because otherwise I don’t know what they’d be travelling in, seeing as Quinn pretty much exclusively rides with Dad, and Dad would probably be home this week because of how close we are to his place.”
“Well if your dad’s home this week what says Quinn doesn’t have a truck of his own that he brought up here?” Drew asked.
“That makes sense too,” Kingston replied. “Regardless, they don’t know we’re here.”
