Resolution: Day 5

Word Count: 30,118

Summary of Events:
Georgiana went to visit Pastor Middleton to inquire about what she and Shelton might have to do before getting married, seeing as he was a Presbyterian and she a Baptist. Shelton went over to Wesley's house to talk about their enlisting together and they agreed that they wouldn't do it later than June 1, but they'd probably wait a week or two to let their graduation settle in first. Mrs. Ellenwood, the foremost gossip of the church, came to visit unexpectedly, obviously intent on learning what there was to know about Georgiana's wedding; she was quite unimpressed to hear Georgiana wanted sparse decorations and a small crowd . . .

Excerpt of the Day:
“Then how will anyone know you’re married?” Mrs. Ellenwood asked.
“They’ll see the rings on our fingers,” Georgiana replied. “I’m sure not everyone living in Edmonton today attended your wedding but they know you’re married because of the ring on your finger.”
“I’m not saying everyone in Edmonton needs to know,” Mrs. Ellenwood replied.
“It certainly seems that you do,” Mother said. “Let my daughter have her wedding her way, I am sure she won’t regret it at all and it will assuredly be a lovely event.”
“It’s troubling enough that your third child is getting married first Opal,” Mrs. Ellenwood said. “But to allow her to have an atrociously unfashionable event? I really cannot believe you would do such a thing Opal. Surely you don’t want to be embarrassed.”
“I won’t be,” Mother replied. “I will be overjoyed to see one of my beloved children take a step of faith and maturity and join herself as one flesh with a wonderful and intelligent young man whom Rodney and I have full trust will never cease or neglect to fulfill to her the wedding vows which he shall make.”
Mrs. Ellenwood shook her head. “You must let me decorate the wedding. I cannot let such an unfashionable event happen at my church.”
“It is my wedding,” Georgiana said firmly. “And you will kindly stay away from it. I don’t want you decorating, advising, helping, providing, or even attending it.”
Mrs. Ellenwood looked at Georgiana in astonished shock. “How dare you say such impetuous things.”
“I’m sorry,” Georgiana said. “But you and I are diametrically opposed when it comes to what we think is an ideal wedding, and since you are not suggesting yourself willing to let me have my wedding how I wish, as important people like my parents and Pastor Middleton are willing to, I don’t want you anywhere near my wedding and if you show up I will have Garth personally escort you back home as many times as necessary for you to realise that you are an unwelcome guest.”
“Well don’t just sit there Opal,” Mrs. Ellenwood scolded. “You can’t let her say things like that.”
“I just did,” Mother replied.
“But that’s not polite,” Mrs. Ellenwood said.
“Neither, Geraldine, is your trying to manhandle one of the most special days of my daughter’s entire life. She will have it how she wants because it is her day. And I am loathe to let you or anyone else try to make it something I know would leave her with unpleasant memories thereon.”
“Well then good day,” Mrs. Ellenwood snapped, getting to her feet and stalking toward the door.
Mother quietly got up and followed her and Georgiana had to admit she felt a little shocked as the realisation started to sink in. She’d just told off the church’s foremost gossip.
